Scrub-A-Dub Saturday

Today I did some good ol' fashioned cleaning.

If you've never had a gas stove then you have no clue just how dirty they can get. I had no idea until we moved out here and I inherited a gas stove top. Cooking with one is just downright messy. The gas emitted accumulates overtime and creates a really grimy surface. I have tried everything to clean the stove but nothing has really worked. So today I tried a more natural approach, baking soda and white vinegar. Simple and effective.

First I cleaned the grates in the sink. I sprayed them down with a solution of equal parts water and vinegar and then sprinkled on baking soda. I let that work it's magic and got to work on the stove. I sprayed the stove down with the same water/vinegar combo then sprinkled it with baking soda. It's just gross what you could see coming up already. I let that sit for a few minutes and then began scrubbing away.

Well I think it's safe to say that it did it's job. Although you can see some of the grime just Would. Not. Come. Up. I scrubbed and scrubbed but some of that residue is just there to stay. I am so pleased with the result and I don't know why I didn't try this before. I am going to add this to my cleaning schedule and try and do this once a week. I do clean off the stove each day when I clean the kitchen, but it needs a good deep scrub at least once a week.

Up next was the refrigerator...It was a DISASTER. So I emptied it out, discarded old items, cleaned it, and then put everything back in.

I love being able to actually SEE everything I have inside the refrigerator! I can't believe I am showing you the before and I am so ashamed that it got so messy.

Emma Claire is SO happy that the stove and fridge are both super clean now.

There is nothing better than a good, deep clean! If only my whole house was deep cleaned, I'd be one happy Momma!

I prefer having a gas stove. I grew up with one and then had electric in college and our first apartment here. SO happy to have a new one.

We use one burner more than all of the rest so it gets dirty the fastest. You can wrap the area around it in foil to catch the mess. It's not pretty, but it saves you some elbow grease.

My house is in desperate need of a deep cleaning. Sigh, no way it will ever happen though. I'm lucky to muster up the energy through the day to just keep it picked up!
