Today we took Miss Emma Claire to the zoo for the very first time. The weather was perfect and we had a great time. I can't wait to take her when she is a little older and can run around and really enjoy all of the animals!
This is the clock you see at the entrance! It's so neat.
The best part about this zoo...it's FREE! Yep, love all of the Smithsonian institutions.
Getting ready to go in!
I love lions. Pretty sure it all started with the Lion King.
I even had a Lion King themed bedroom when I was younger. Don't judge, you know you wanted one too.
Emma Claire liked looking around and was holding tight to her passy today. She never loves it this much. I think with teething that the sucking helps her gums feel a little better.
We got to watch this Gorilla rip a branch off the tree for a snack!
So much to think about.
We loved looking at the pandas! They were all lounging.
Elephants! This time next year they will be living in an extremely neat, new, enclosure! It's under construction now.
Emma Claire and the Prairie Dogs.
Not a "perfect" picture but I love it so much. I cannot get enough of her LEGS. I love how chunky they've gotten!
She was not into pictures today AT ALL. I don't blame her, there were so many people and things to look at!
All done! After a quick snack in the car before heading home she was one happy girl.
Side Note: Now that she is out of her carrier more and more when we go out we get so many looks because of her bows! Up here bows (let alone BIG ole' bows) are not common, so everyone is always saying, "oh my gosh...look at her bow!" As we walk throughout stores I feel like I'm with a tiny celebrity. People are constantly nudging their friends/family members to look at the baby with the bow! It cracks me up. If we were in the south I'm pretty sure no one would look twice at her bows!
On the way home we drove by some of the monuments, just because we could! It was a little warm and we were wiped out from speed walking the zoo so we just settled for a nice drive around the city. I just love that we can drive into the nation's capitol any time we want. We are trying to be good citizens of northern Virginia and go into the city whenever we can.
One happy little girl with her zoo souvenirs!
I would say that Emma Claire's first trip to the zoo was a huge success!

I love the zoo. I can't wait to take G to some of the larger zoos!
So glad you all had fun!
the paci is for sure a teething thing. G was never even interested in hers until she started teething. I rarely cave and let her have it because the girl would be addicted! For me it's easier to stop a habit before it becomes one...and since my husband had one until he was FOUR I'm pretty sure she would be the same way!
What a fun day. Was she at all responsive to the animals?
At least people seem to like the bows! :) They're not such a huge thing down here either...though it's about as south as you get. Haha. (But everyone knows Miami is NOT "The South".)
Glad you had a great time!
I love the zoo. Cute pictures!
Fun! Cute pictures. I just posted (tonight) about my baby boy's 1st zoo trip as well! ;)
Aw how fun!! I'm so jealous you live so close to go to all the Smithsonian museums and what not - I want to go so bad!!
I'm so glad y'all had such a fun day! Y'all are such a sweet family! You're doing a great job raising Emma Claire right, in southern tradition and teaching her to love animals ^_^
eeek, this makes me so excited for our zoo trip this summer :)
I love the bow thing! People around here don't really do bows either. Callyn doesn't have any of those traditional huge bows like EC, but she always has a bow on her head and we ALWAYS get comments and stares...it's fun :)
Im hoping to get a chance to take my Little Guy to the zoo this summer too. He's never been & he's almost two. I think he will love it. Great pics, looks like an awesome day :)
What a fun post!!!
