A Day in the Life: Nine Months

First off...this is my 400th post! WOW!
I can't believe I've written that many! Blogging has been such an amazing experience so far. I love getting to journal and record experiences as well as keep record of our family adventures. On top of that I have made some great friends. I am so thankful for all of my bloggy friends. :-) As for my readers, I can't believe that I actually have people {other than my husband and mother} that are interested in what I have to say. I love getting comments and making connections with other people. I may not be the best comment responder but know that I read each and every one and I LOVE getting comments. They make my day. With that being said I am going to continue to write what may be the longest post I've ever written! You've been warned.

It's been a while since I've done a day in the life so I decided it was about time I do another. The age Emma Claire is at is such a fun one and we have our fair share of busy days as well as lazy stay at home days. Today was a pretty busy day but I think that's mainly because she's been sick and is finally better so I took advantage of that and we ran errands! I also want to say that this post is long and detailed but I write these for me. I know when she's nine years old I won't remember the details of a day with her when she was nine months old. I cherish these posts and need to write them more often. So without further ado...here was our day today.

Last night was R-O-U-G-H. She was up no less than ten times. I really hope that tonight is better. I got her from her crib at 7am and brought her into bed with me to nurse her. At about 7:30am I decided it was time to get up for the day.

 When I sat her up this was her pitiful little face. Bless her heart.

Rough nights are hard on her too. I was seriously worried about our day at this point. We have been going stir crazy being stuck at home these past few days. But when I was changing her diaper she pulled off her jammies so I went with it.

There's a SMILE. I have missed those so much over the past few days. She was more than happy to roll around on the floor and play in her diaper while I showered.

Her favorite new "toy". It really doesn't bother me too much that she stands by the toilet...I clean our bathroom so frequently I know she is probably safe. Not saying I let her hang out there constantly! ha!

She played really well by herself this morning. I usually shower during nap time but today we had places to go so I did it while she was awake.

ha we were both looking at the camera and not the mirror. Oh well I love her face and her little milk filled poochy belly.

{Side note: I usually don't do my hair. I was just tired of the wet french braid look so I took an extra 10 min to blow dry it and roughly curl it.}

Once I was all done getting ready we headed downstairs to free let the dogs out.

The highlight of Emma Claire's morning. Watching the dogs do their business. She goes nuts.

Breakfast for us girls this morning consisted of waffles {they're gluten/dairy/egg free and surprisingly good!}, bananas, applesauce, and some lemonade.

Most mornings I just feed her whatever I'm eating. It's easier that way. And she LOVES these waffles.

She's on a high chair boycott. She literally won't eat in her high chair. So I've resorted to putting food in her tray of the bouncer. She goes nuts. I figure whatever works, right?

While she ate her waffles I cleaned up and did dishes. I've haven't mentioned this but I don't use our dishwasher anymore. The one we have at this house doesn't work well at all and I have heard that the dishwasher is the most energy draining appliance. I have no idea if that's the case but I am loving doing dishes by hand so far. I just do them right after we eat and there is never a dirty dishwasher to unload! Score...at least for me. I have no problem washing dishes, it's the putting them away I hate!

Once the kitchen is clean I get her ready to run errands.

Loving her $3 fish applique onesie from Tarjay ;-) And the fact that I can clip a bow straight into her hair now. I didn't even need a ponytail holder today.

Our first trip was to Home Depot! I needed some more paint to get started on the front room and some accent paint for...a STRIPED WALL! That's right. I'm going to attempt stripes. The wall I'm planning to do it on isn't big at all so I figure if I hate it I can re-paint.

Um her face in the carseat picture. She looks 13, does she not?

And I love going to Home Depot with her. She has always been fascinated with men and she gets so much attention there it's hilarious to watch her watch people! And I always check out their "oops" paint section and have never found anything...until today! I got a great light blue color in bher premium for $7! It's usually $40! SCORE! I think I'm going to use it to paint the front hall closet. Not sure what else I could use it for...maybe the laundry room when we Sheetrock it {someday!}

Next up was Costco. We got gas first and then ended up spending way too much money finding some great deals and going home with way more than planned bringing home our  fun finds.

Doesn't EC look THRILLED about her halloween costume? Ha! I also got a pair of lamps that are just what I've been looking for! One will go in the family room and one will be in our guest room. It started raining on our way home and sweet baby fell asleep.

Great deal alert: Costco now has Carter's Halloween outfits for $12! Online they're $22.80! You can see them {HERE}.

My Costco had all of them in stock! I obviously got the Elephant for EC but I wanted to get the ladybug too...and the zebra...and the pumpkin. Let's face it. I wanted ALL of them. They're adorable and come with a shirt and tights!

When we got home something happened that NEVER happens at our house...Emma Claire stayed asleep in the carrier. For a whopping 10 minutes. I was shocked!

When she woke up we played a bit but she was still fussy so it was time for another nap. Before I put her down I was trying to cheer her up by taking pictures of us so she could see herself on my iphone and I got this one...

We are making the same face! I love it! My little mini me :-)

She obviously didn't think it was nap time. She protested pretty hard for about four minutes and then was O-U-T.

Once she fell asleep I had a little snack.

Then I got to work...I have to say that I did a lot of projects during nap time today and that rarely happens. I'm glad that I got things done though. I am usually worn out and rest during nap time.

First up...dying my bed skirt. I bought the cutest ruffle bed skirt from Wayfair and was so excited to put it on the bed. However when I did I realized the bed skirt is white white and our comforter is off white. Something that you don't notice until you put white white up to it. I was really bummed but then my mom suggested I dye it. I thought what the heck I'll give it a try and went out and got some pearl grey rit dye. I figured I had nothing to loose so why not!

While the bed skirt was in the wash I finished a project I've been wanting to do for a long time. Some entry way art using an antique map of Waco and the key to our Waco condo. I LOVE how it turned out and I can't wait to hang it! I used a frame I already had and painted it heirloom white then distressed it a bit. Loving the final product.

Next up was a fun little garage sale table I snagged for $3! I got it months ago and  knew I was going to paint it white I just hadn't done it yet. So today I decided I would just do it. I didn't think EC would sleep long enough for me to finish it, but she did! I LOVE it and it is going to be my powder bath table!

Miss Emma Claire woke up soon after I finished the table. We headed upstairs to see how the grey bedskirt looked. It looks pretty good and the coloring is solid throughout which was my main concern. In this picture it is lighter on the left side due to the light from our window.

On the right you can see the white on white combo was no bueno. The grey is much better and I can't wait to see how it all comes together. I am still searching for a bench to put at the foot of the bed, a blanket to throw at the foot of the bed, more pillows, as well as something to go above the bed. For me that's the hardest part of a master bedroom to decorate.

After doing our share of decorating we headed back to downstairs to play for a bit. Emma Claire and I had a snack of veggie straws and avocado.

My Mom got her that book and she LOVES it. It plays the "abc" tune when you open it. EC will sit and open and close the book over and over again. Makes my heart happy that she will sit and look at books at this age.

She got bored inside after a while so we headed outside to play in the pool. I wasn't sure where our swim diapers were and was not confident in her ability to NOT poop in the pool so we just played in the dry pool. The weather was great, there was a slight breeze and it was only 85 degrees.

She did something tonight she has never done before...she stuck her tongue out for almost a minute. I have no idea what she was doing. Maybe trying to act like the dogs? ha!

Once we finished playing outside we came in so EC could eat "dinner" {aka a few graham cracker pieces and a bite of a banana} She has not been loving solids lately and I'm lucky if I can get her to take a bite of anything. I blame sickness and teething.

Lately while she eats I've been doing dishes, cleaning up the kitchen, vacumming the living room and picking up toys. This way when I come down from putting her to bed I don't have a ton of chores to do.

Tonight was special...I wish I had a video of my living room cleaning tonight. I somehow ran across a SPIDER. I don't think I've ever written this on here but I am TERRIFIED of spiders. Seriously TERRIFIED. And I'm from Texas and have seen lots of spiders...this was a pretty good size one. As much as I don't like them I really don't like to kill them because I know most are good, and this one was just a wolf spider. But this sucker was BIG. So what do I do? I decide I can drop something on it to stun it {great thinking, I know} and then put it on a plate and take it outside. Well I succeeded for the most part...pretty sure I killed it. I'm pretty sure Emma Claire thought this entire escapade was hilarious. I was squealing and jumping around and yelling at the dogs to get it. It was quite a scene.

Clean kitchen. So nice.

And finally...our happy time. Life is good at our house during bath time. We turn on the Disney Pandora, play, cross our feet like a lady, and have fun.

All in all I'd say we had a pretty good day! Emma Claire was in bed at 8:00pm tonight which is a little later than the past few days so I'm hoping she sleeps better tonight. So far so good. It's 10:00pm and I haven't heard from her...yet. Today was such a welcome change of pace. While Emma Claire was sick I got nothing done. Nothing. She was fussy and didn't want to be left alone, but didn't really want me to hold her, nursing didn't make her happy, and her naps were really short. Not to mention she slept horribly all last week. So saying I was happy to have my cheery baby back would be a HUGE understatement!

Rosie Posie Baby

 I had a completely different blog post all written and ready to go for today but have decided to postpone it to document Miss EC's first official sickness. And  I'm sad to report that while Emma Claire's fever is gone we have confirmation now that her virus was Roseola. What is Roseola you might ask? Well the official definition is: Roseola (also known as sixth disease, exanthem subitum, and roseola infantum): a viral illness in young kids, most commonly affecting those between 6 months and 2 years old. It is usually marked by several days of high fever followed by a distinctive rash just as the fever breaks. {Via Kids Health}

 She is just pitiful. Poor baby.
 The rash is much more red in person.
 You can see more of it here. Thankfully it isn't raised and doesn't seem to bother her that much.
 It's all over her tiny little body.
 On her little chest.
 She is happy most of the time. But she can go from smiling and laughing one minute....
To screaming and crying the next                                                                                                                                                                   She is down for a nap now, thankfully. I talked with our pedi this morning and they aren't concerned. Since her fever is gone and the rash isn't terribly red, inflamed, or infected they think it will pass soon. Hopefully she will be rash free tomorrow. Sadly we decided to skip baby gymnastics today. I know she isn't contagious right now but I know I wouldn't be crazy about a baby showing up covered in a rash! ha!  On another note...my enter key is broken. Which on it's own doesn't sound like a big deal...until you try and write a blog post without it. Pretty tricky. And annoying. Anyone have any quick fixes for that? I have been googling for 30 minutes trying to fix it.

Little Sickey

Well we made it nine whole months without Emma Claire getting sick. Like I mentioned in my blog post Friday our healthy streak has ended. {Thank you for all the well wishes!} Friday she started running a fever and was just so pitiful. After the somewhat comical phone conversation with the doctor's office it was decided that if she was still running a fever Monday then I would bring her in. Well when she woke up Saturday morning and after having several doses of Tylenol she was still running a fever of 102. I decided I wanted to take her in just to rule out an ear infection. I love our pediatricians office and the fact that they are open on Saturday. There are three doctors and I had seen all but one and he's who we saw Saturday morning. He was great and ruled out an ear infection and figured that she just had a virus.

So here's a little bit of what we've been up to this sickey weekend.

{Saturday}

Precious baby before her doctors appointment Saturday morning.

I stopped by CVS on the way home. If this doesn't scream "I have a sick baby" I don't know what does ;-)

Oh...and for the first time ever I didn't get carded buying wine! I guess I'm starting to show my age...ha!

After some Motrin she was finally able to sleep.

Praise the lord for dogs. I feel like they were the only ones who could get her to smile!

Oh I love this picture so much. The eyes, the lashes, the smile.

{Sunday}

For once the hubs didn't have to go in early so we were planning on going to church but that just wasn't in the cards for us this morning. EC was still quite puny and running a fever.

You know this little one is sick when she actually sits still in your lap for more than 10 seconds.

This is how we spent our afternoon. Tangled, snuggles, and pedialyte pops.

And for those of you who are wondering...Emma Claire pays attention to the first musical number of the movie and that's about it.  Oh and she loves the chameleon too! He squeaks and makes noises that get her attention.

Even though we spent all weekend at home and rested she was not acting like herself this evening. She wasn't even happy at bath time tonight. It just breaks my heart to know she doesn't feel well. So here's hoping she wakes up tomorrow and is back to her happy little self!

Guest Post, Fess Up Friday, and a Fever

I know a lot of y'all read Miss Tami's blog, Little Moments Like This, but if you don't...you should! She is awesome and I have loved becoming "friends" with her through our little blogs. Today I'm guest posting about how to handle life as a "single" parent. AKA how I manage the Mr. working odd hours and being gone a lot.

You can read my guest post {HERE}

I've also dedicated today "Friday Fess-up"
 I'm going to show you the current state of my house. You will most likely be shocked. This disaster of a home is the product of having a mobile nine month old, many home improvement projects going on at once, and a husband who works too much ;-) I know that this mess is just temporary but it still drives me crazy. So if you've ever wanted to see what my house REALLY looks like...read on! {And please don't judge too harshly!}

Today I organized my china cabinet and I would usually just show you this picture...

but since it's fess up Friday you get to see the entire dining room and the glorious mess it is.

Sadly this is the view from the front door right now.

having it all labeled makes it somewhat more bearable. Right? This room was initially cleaned out after we moved in but things have slowly been finding their way back as we transition items from room to room. This will {one day} be our formal living area and I have plans for my dad to build a built in bookshelf!

...And of course. The trash needs to go out and there are tiny laundry piles everywhere.

I know the mess is temporary and will go away as projects are finished but it drives me nuts. Sadly there is only one of me and there is a little lady that demands 110% of my attention most days. So I can only accomplish so much in a day.

On top of all of this Emma Claire is running her first ever fever. Pitiful doesn't even begin to describe it.

Earlier she fell asleep in my arms, something she hasn't done in months. I thought it was sweet until I noticed how warm she was. Well when she woke up I took her temp and sure enough it was 101.5.

So it was out of the cute outfit and no errands for us today. I gave her Tylenol and ran a luke warm bath. Is her face here not the saddest thing you've ever seen??

Sesame street is on right now and she is transfixed.

Wanna hear a funny story? When I called our pedi about her fever I told them it was 101.5 and the nurse said, "Well you need to take her to the hospital immediately." I responded with a shocked, "The HOSPITAL?!" After talking for a few minutes she told he it was a pediatric emergency and she needed to go to the ER immediately. So I hung up and frantically got things ready to go while thinking to myself that I know lots of babies who run fevers and don't go to the EMERGENCY ROOM. As I was getting ready to leave the nurse called back and said, "How old is Emma?" To which I thought 'her name is EMMA CLAIRE'...then 'ugh that's not the point', and said, "She's 9  months, why?" The nurse cracked up and said, "Oh my gosh do NOT take her to the hospital! Earlier I misunderstood you and thought you said she was ONE month old." Needless to say I was relieved however a tad irritated.

So on top of a messy house I have a little sickie to tend to :-( and no groceries. {it was grocery day today} Sigh. I suppose I should go read my own guest post on how to handle all of this alone and not throw a pity party! ha!

Green be Gone

So you may or may not remember the lovely sage green kitchen walls from my house tour pictures. Well I decided that the kitchen would be my first "big" room to paint. So I taped off the kitchen a week ago and got to work! I finished up last night and am loving the lighter more subtle walls.

 {The color is dolphin fin by bher.}

This is the first of many changes I have planned for this space. So far the list includes:

- Painting the cabinets
-Installing cabinet drawer pulls and handles
- Installing a backsplash
-Getting new countertops
-Getting new appliances
- Installing a glass shelf above the sink to display milk glass, mason jars, etc.

Whew! It will take us a while to complete this list but I am excited to have started making changes. I think the next project I am going to tackle is painting the cabinets. It's by far the biggest project on the list {for me} and I am starting to do my research. Any helpful tips from veteran cabinet painters would be appreciated!

Today during EC's nap time I was able to tape off and cut in the rest of the kitchen. When she goes to bed tonight I plan on knocking out the rest of the painting and the green will officially be G-O-N-E! I can't wait to see the change.

And just for grins and giggles here is my BIG baby girl showing off her teeth this morning.

Love those cheeks and that smile. Disclaimer: I swear I wasn't pinching her face hard at all ;-) Just appears that way in the photo.

Chick Fil A Day!

So like many people did...we made our way to Chick-fil-a today for support Chick-fil-a day! I'm not choosing to take a stance on many of the controversial issues that have arisen from this situation on this blog. I am, however, going to share the pictures from our visit! It was quite the day for Chick-fil-a and we had fun joining in the crowd! It was also Emma Claire's first time to have her very own kid's meal at a restaurant!

EC and Daddy in line! The line was crazy long but we didn't have to wait too long!

So can I just say that the rest of my little family looked like models while I was dressed in paint clothes. Such is the life. ;-)

EC's smocked dress had chicks on the front and cows on the back. Perfect!

Side story: For the first time EVER I had a lady come up to me and say how cute EC's smocked dress was and that her daughter had the same one. I was speechless! That seriously NEVER happens up here! Most people have no idea what smocking is! ha!

There were two lines going and both were OUT of the building! And the drive through wrapped around the building TWICE!

We got a table that was right next to the enormous line and Emma Claire had the BEST time socializing. Girlfriend loves being the center of attention. It also helped that she was back in a corner so all of the nice people could look but not get close. ha! Exactly what she prefers!

Another Side Story: I got another "fun" comment about EC's bow today. A lady came up and said to EC, "You are just so beautiful...but that bow detracts from your beauty! You don't need that silly thing on your head!" HA. We had no clue how to respond so we just laughed. But seriously. It's a bow.

Seriously she was in heaven. {And Natalie...she sat like this for her entire meal. It cracked me up!}

She has also started giving a "super cheesy" smile all the time.  That's what we call it at least. She smiles so big you can see all of her teeth. She also wrinkles her nose when she dose it. It's pretty much the cutest thing ever.

Today was a fun day for us. Getting to eat Chick-fil-a and socialize with our community made for a perfect lunch. Emma Claire actually ate a bunch of her grilled chicken nuggets and almost all of her fruit cup {sans apples}. I would say her first "meal" of her own at a restaurant was a success!
