Well my latest project is FINISHED. Now that I have another space complete I am feeling so much better about our home.
After finishing the powder bath I knew I wanted the entryway to be my next project. The first entryway project I did was to replace the old brass light fixture with a new crisp and bright fixture. I did this ALL ON MY OWN. To say I was proud of myself would be an understatement!
The next step of the entry way makeover was painting over the beige walls with a crisp grey. I used dolphin fin by behr. When I finished
painting the entry I decided it just didn't work for me. I love that picture
frame but I just wasn't feeling it. I also decided that the entry wall
needed some oomph.
{Please pardon the blurry iphone picture}
So I decided that I was going to take the plunge and do a striped wall. I had been planning on it but honestly I was scared to death. Stripes are SO intimidating to me. It didn't help that I did this project while a certain man was out of town. Which meant drawing, taping off, and painting the stripes all alone. AKA only two hands. I came across my first hurdle when I needed to measure the entire wall. Now we don't have huge ceilings but they are fairly tall. So I came up with a solution that worked for me.
Painters tape...not just for painting!
I decided on 8" stripes and then marked them and using my level drew my stripes. Then I taped off and was ready to go.
TA-DA! I am THRILLED with the result and am so glad I committed to the stripes.
Once the stripes were finished I had to find something to go above the entry table. So EC and I headed to home goods in search of a mirror. I knew I wanted a round mirror but was nervous about finding one. When I first started looking there wasn't anything that I liked. However I started looking behind mirrors and found THE mirror. I love it and think it just works so well with the stripes and table.
{the little pedestal picture frame is empty because I'm trying to decide if I want to put a picture in it or make it a chalkboard...decisions.}
The before/after shot
On the left side of the mirror hangs our iron key, a frame with an antique map of Waco with a mounted key from our condo that we lived in as newlyweds, and our key holder. They key holder was originally silver but I painted it with Rustoleum's Painters Touch warm yellow.
Some details...
And just when I thought I was done....
I decided the front door needed to be painted.
I just can't leave well enough alone.
I think the painted front door just completes the space. I went with a really dark grey instead of the traditional black. The color is dark granite by bher and I am just in love with it and am already looking for something else to paint this color!
So there you have it! If you drop by my house now I won't be mortified to open the front door to you! Now if I could just get the formal living room in shape! I am making progress though. I just ordered two chairs for the room and I am IN LOVE with them.
Aren't they beautiful? I can't wait for them to get here!
In case you're wondering here are the paint colors I used for our entry!
Paint Colors
Wall: Dolphin Fin by Behr
Stripe Accents: Irish Mist by Behr
Front Door: Dark Granite by Behr

Wow! You are so awesome at these DIY projects! I LOVE what you did with your entry way. You've given me a couple ideas for my home. :-)
Looks so awesome!!!!
Oh my gosh, I LOVES it!!! You're making me jealous we don't have an actual entryway. :(
And with the frame, I'd say go with a chalkboard. I think it would go better with what you're trying to do. Just my two cents. :)
It turned out amazing. I love it all and I'm glad we agreed that you'll be coming to my house to decorate it & paint when I b my house. Great job
I LOVE the stripes!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this transformation! Oh my that striped wall turned out fabulous and the painted front door just sealed the deal. BTW, that granite paint is an awesome color :)
Can't wait to see those chairs in their new home. They are fabulous.
Will you come makeover my house nesxt? LOL
I still cannot even figure out how you managed to draw straight lines by yourself. Blows my mind that you did this alone! I am so dependent on help, haha! That's why I don't get any cool projects done... because I don't often have help either! ;( It looks great. I've been wanting to paint the outside of our front door forever. It is atrocious. Come do it for me? ;) We also don't have an entryway... wish we did!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE those stripes!!! Great idea:)
