Well it's 1:30 and someone is asleep on my chest (she's been a little gassy lately and she sleeps better on her little tummy) hopefully I'll get to write this post in one sitting! HA wishful thinking! I can't believe that four weeks have already gone by! WOW! Little miss is getting more active and alert each day.
Here we are with our double name, in our big bow, and wearing our first smocked dress! Unless there's sweet tea in her bottle it doesn't get more southern than that folks ;-)
Loves: Sleeping on Mommy's chest...this is brand new and I think because she's been a little gassy and her tummy feels better if she's laying on it.
Eating: BF is getting better each day. I have decided that I don't LOVE breastfeeding but I do love the bond it's creating with Emma Claire and I as well as the health benefits she's getting from it. I'm going to BF as long as it works for us and when she isn't satisfied from BF she gets formula. She has gone a few days without formula and I think she really only needs it when she's going through a little growth spurt and breast milk just isn't enough.
Sleeping: We had our first night of sleeping through the night!! YIPEE! She slept from 12:30am until just after 6am on Friday, November 25th, 2011! I know she can do it now! The downside to this...she hasn't done it since and I know what I'm missing out on!!! HA! The past few nights she has been waking up SCREAMING because she's gassy. At first I didn't know that's what it was, I was thinking she was really hungry but she didn't want to eat and was quickly rocked back to sleep after she went potty. I'm going to try giving her some gripe water at night, I've heard wonderful things about it. Do any of you have experience with it or have suggestions for nighttime gas?
Clothes: Still in newborn clothes and diapers. Although she has outgrown her first pair of pants! They were REEEALLY tiny though!
Fun Facts: Emma Claire now follows me with her head and eyes! If I stand over her and talk then move to one side she will track me with her eyes and move her head! When I first noticed this I'm pretty sure I moved back and forth over her for 30 minutes just watching her watch me! It's the little things! :-)
Mommy Moments: I was pretty excited for our first sleep through the night experience! I also got majorly pooped on today for the first time, it was so wonderful! HA!
Picture Perfect
This weekend Emma Claire went to her first birthday party!
Our friends have a sweet Little girl who turned one!
Isn't she ADORABLE!?
Auntie Leah and Uncle CJ got to meet Emma Claire for the first time!
I finally got a picture of Kelly with Emma Claire! :-)
I love this picture so much! They were all looking at her like they had never seen a baby before! Only two were brave enough to hold her ;-)
What a natural :-) She loved him!
We had a great week! I can't believe a month has almost gone by already!

oh my goodness she is beautiful! I'm so glad the feeding is going better! G sleeps on her tummy. The moment I put her on her tummy to sleep it pretty much doubled her sleep time. I used Gripe water and it really helped at first. Now, I just use it for hiccups. Also, sometimes it's dairy in the mother's diet causing gas or potty issues. I never thought about that until after the fact but am going to try cutting out dairy with baby #2 (a long, LONG, time from now!)
Grayson had lots of gas when I would eat anything with a little spice. We learned that quickly one night after I had chili! Never did that again! Maybe it's something you're eating? I don't know...just a thought! Emma Claire is precious!!
wow I cant believe she's 4 weeks old already. She is adorable. loving those big bows
She's looking more beautiful than ever! So glad you are having such a wonderful time :)
I can not believe it's been 4 weeks! And that little turkey onesie is absolutely the most adorable thing I've seen, SO cute!
Brynlee Ann did the waking up screaming thing right around this age - she did it at the same time every night for several nights/weeks. I quickly realized it was gas (after doing the attempted feeding) when I paid attention to her eyes - if they were open while she was crying, she's hungry, and if they're closed, it's gas. I just pushed her knees up to her chest and twisted her until she got relief and then she just went back to sleep. As far as the sleeping through the night thing, our pediatrician said that if she's slept once that long, then she can do it again, so it's okay to just put her paci back in and hopefully she'll go back to sleep if it's not gas. This phase (of gas pains in the middle of the night) passed fairly quickly for Brynlee Ann so I will be praying for sweet Emma Claire to be relieved from this stage soon! I've never really had to change my diet...Brynlee Ann just seems to get used to whatever I'm eating. Also, I noticed the days she has formula supplemented she has more gas pains and sleeps less at night (like last night :-( ). Anyways, sorry for the paragraph of advice -- hope some of it helps! Wish we all lived closer! It would be so fun to get our girls together! :-)
I'm sooo struggling with rg and gas!!! At first u thought it was something I've been eating but now I don't think that has anything to do with it. I have kept waiting for this stage to "pass" (pun intended hah) but it's been having around for over a week :( I'm debating calling her doc.
I've tried putting her knees to chest- that works almost never.
I've also gotten some gas drops called mylicon. They seem to help a lot but I hate giving them to her all the time! :(
currently rg is FUGHTING sleep hardcore combined with her tummy ache. I'm trying letting her sleep on my chest and I think she just might be dozing off...let m know if u fund a cure and I'll do the same! :)
EC is so adorable!!! Love the southern-ness of course ;)
Four weeks already??? Stop the clock!
She gets cuter everyday. On second thought...leave the clock running. ;)
Miss chatting with you. My life is pure craziness around here. Trying to make it slow down, but I just can't seem to get a break. I was up until 2am and up at 6:25am.
As for EC's tummy trouble...have you tried Mylecon? (actually store brand...Walmart/Target works just fine is is waaaay cheaper.) You can talk to you pediatrician, but ours said it's very safe and can be used any time. I primarily breastfed, but when I did give a bottle, I would add about two drops of the Mylecon to get rid of any bubbles. Worked like a charm. Also, make sure the nipple on the bottle isn't too fast of a flow. Even if she's getting gassy from breast feeding, you can certainly still use the Mylecon.
I wouldn't wory too much, though about her not getting enough from you. In fact, if she IS going through a growth spurt, feeding from you is better to keep your supply up with her demand (you know, the whole supply vs. demand thing.) If she is needing more, then by you feeding her a bottle instead of giving her more from you will actually eventually decrease your milk supply. I learned this the hard way. When Ethan was born (guinea pig baby...haha) Justin was trying to be nice at night and suggested that I just give Ethan a quick bottle instead of being up for an hour feeding (he was such a slow, sleepy eater!!!) Doing that made my supply go down b/c my body didn't think I needed to make as much. As a result, Ethan got very cranky for a couple of weeks b/c he really wasn't getting enough. Again...talk to your Dr. or lactation consultant if you're not sure.
All 3 of mine slept though the night consistently by 8-10 weeks. I wouldn't worry about her not sleeping all night again just yet. She's pretty little to go really long stretches (tiny tummy! :)...but she'll get there. I'm sure YOU are ready for real sleep, though. You'll make it. It's just temporary. I thought I'd never get out of the diaper stage (I had 3 in diapers at the same time!!!), but here I am. :)
Emma Claire's pics are adorable. Give us more! She makes me smile. :) Have a great day, Mallorie!
We use the gas drops at Adeline's night feeding and that seems to help her. I also let her lay on her tummy for a while in the evening on a blanket in the living room with us...sometimes it helps her fall asleep. She is such a doll! Loved the picture of the guys all looking at her! :)
