You know you're a teacher when...

The best day of the week is when the Scholastic order comes in!!! Seriously ya'll, there's nothing like getting your box of books!!! If you're a teacher, you get it ;-)

Such happy things in this box!

As a soon to be new teacher with my own classroom full of kiddo's I am constantly worried about having enough materials, being prepared, and having a great classroom library to start my kids off on the right track. I think I'm off to a great start with this order of books I just got. I have a lot of the classics and some new fun books that I love! Here's my lot of books, I just had to share it...I can't help it, I'm proud of my little library! :-)

I just love all of these books, and they're all MINE now! :-)

I've already read some of these with my little ones!

I am now the proud owner of all of the "If you Give a..." books...

As well as a Kevin Henkes set! These are just the cutest books!

My new favorite Valentine's book is Love, Splat by Rob Scotton. It is THE cutest book!

Also, how adorable is the back cover?! I just love it! On another note...while at the Flea Market this week I bargained with a seller and got this entire box of books thrown into a furniture deal!
(Furniture will be shown soon! Here's a teaser...1930's dresser and vanity! Get excited!)

I got about 130 books thrown into my furniture deal...about 80 are going to be going to my future classroom! That's an amazing deal! This box is full of the books that are "classroom useable". I just have to say that I was so worried about not having books and being unprepared for my first year of teaching and now look at the surplus of books I have. God is SO good, and I can't wait to share all of these amazing books with my class someday! :-)

My First Valentine's Day in First Grade

Oh what a day it was...you haven't really experienced Valentine's Day until you spend it with a room full of 6 and 7 year olds :-) Today was such a fun day, we did math with candy hearts, made valentines for parents, and of course exchanged Valentine's Day goodies! I was spoiled by my class! :-) I'm going to share one of my favorite gifts from the day, there's nothing quite like the gift packaging of a First Grader....

How sweet is this? :-) There are Dove Chocolates inside, my favorite!!! Another sweet part of my day that I want to share is a special card box that one of my students made.

Is this not the sweetest Valentine's Day box you've ever seen?! I just love this :-) There were also several creative card boxes, here's one of my favorites...

I laughed to myself all day about this box, it's just so creative!!! After school the Future Hubster gave me these beautiful roses and a sweet card.

My GORGEOUS roses and our cards to each other :-) He also got me some chocolate truffles, candy and this...

A Michael Kors purse!!! :-) The real reason behind me wanting one of his purses is because once Future Hubster and I are married my initials will be "MK"! I think that this might be a nice excuse to buy more Michael Kors items ;-) I had a wonderful Valentine's Day, I hope you did as well! Taking a cue from one of my students, here is my verse for tonight...

"Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:8

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!! :-) I know many people hate this holiday, but I've always loved it! As a child, my mom would always cook a special breakfast and serve us orange juice in pretty little red cups with hearts on them. Even during my "single years" ;-), I never hated Valentine's Day. Partially because I feel that this day should give others hope, as they see all of the love surrounding them. Valentine's Day isn't just about love between significant others, but between family, friends, and loved ones. Here's a picture of me with my Valentine :-)

Above all,we need to always remember God's unfailing love for us. :-)

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails" 1 Corinthians 13:4–8

Tell someone you love them today, Happy Valentine's Day ya'll!

Funky Junk Interiors

Today I stumbled upon a website that is now one of my favorites, Funky Junk Interiors! They had a link up party with "junk to jewel" transformations and I could spend hours looking through all of the amazing projects that people have done. I linked up my Dumpster Divin' Diva post about my kitchen table and chairs :-) I hope someone is inspired by it like I was inspired by all of the projects on the site.

Fantastic Flea Market Find!

Today was an amazing day to go to the flea market! We had beautiful weather and a ton of people were out. I usually don't find much at my flea market, but today was an exception. There were TOO many things I wanted to take home with me! The problem is that I am obsessed with furniture. Especially older/antique furniture, I love breathing new life into them and finding ways for them to fit into my home. As Future Hubster and I were walking around I saw a vanity that I just adored. It needed to be sanded down and repainted, which is one of my favorite things to do so I wouldn't mind that. It was just very cute and I almost instantly got an image in my head of what I wanted it to look like. The man selling it was askign $40 for it, which I though was a little high. So Future Hubster and I walked around to think. On our way back to take a second look I spotted something I just knew I couldn't live without. The cutest little rocking chair. Funny enough, it was being sold by the same man! He only wanted $15 for it and I said "Deal!". I did some research on rocking chair's and found some interesting information, this is a model similar to the Thonet Bentwood Rocking Chair and they are apparently very valuable and worth MUCH more than $15!
Do any of you have a Thonet Bentwood rocker, or know more about them?
I found some antiques that are listed for upwards of $3,000! On Ebay there is a painting of one of these chairs that is listed for $625! What in the world did I stumble upon? :-)

I am going to paint and recover this little gem. I am SO EXCITED to get to work on it! I am thinking about recovering it with a brown gingham fabric and I'm not sure about the paint color yet. Possibly dark brown. I LOVE the look of toile and gingham together so my hopes are to have toile curtains someday with a gingham chair in the room.

Here is some more detail of the chair, I just can't get over how beautiful it is! Oh, please excuse the dust bunnies...I was just so excited to take pictures of it, I didn't dust it! :-)

There are a few nicks and dings, but those can be sanded out before painting :-)

I just love all of the curves and swirls. It's official, I'm in love with my newest find!

Southern Boys Love Their Toys

Future Hubster is a true southern gentleman down to his core, from his love of sweet tea and fried okra to his obsession with hunting...and let me tell you, the boy loves his firearms :-) To be honest y'all, I've never ever liked guns. Growing up, my family never owned guns or had anything to do with them. However, the Future Hubster has made me see that with the proper precautions and the correct training, firearms aren't quite as scary as I had always believed. Don't get me wrong...I'm still not a huge fan and I prefer them locked away in a gun case :-) Although I've had many gun-saftey lessons over the past two years and have been to the shooting range with Future Hubster I had never actually shot a gun. Well folks, today was the day. I went with Future Hubster, one of his brothers, and a friend of ours to shoot skeet at the local skeet shooting range.

Future Hubster is a wonderful teacher...I was SO SCARED! Since I was shooting with a shotgun I knew there would be some kick after the shot and I was pretty scared of that!

So I was right to be afraid of the kickback...it HURT!!! I am laughing here out of pure shock! Although I did shoot the gun and I almost hit my target. Ha! I think this was a one time thing for me! And no, I am not getting paid by Job Link for an advertisment! ;-)

This girl rocked at skeet shooting! I was so impressed!!! She was also much braver than I was and hit half of her targets! Go Laurie!! :-)

Here's the Future Brother-in-Law :-) Great shot, Daniel!

I picked a keeper :-)

As fun as today was, I think I'll stick to watching the shooting from now on. I'll pick up a glass of sweet tea over a shooting range any day ;-) Oh, and don't forget the fried okra!

"Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm." Ephesians 6:11-13
